STARRING: Shin Ha Kyun, Yeo Jin Goo, Choi Jin Ho, Kil Hae Yeon, Heo Sung Tae etc.

SUMMARY: Beyond Evil is a drama that focuses on the story of two detectives, Lee Dong Sik and Han Ju Won.

Lee Dong Sik (Shin Ha Kyun) is a detective that works at the Manyang Police Substation, where he does all the tedious roles that his colleagues does not want to be involved. While upholding the law, Dong Sik had been trying to find his missing sister for the past 20 years.

Han Ju Won (Yeo Jin Goo) is a detective that requested to be transferred to Manyang Police Substation despite his capabilities and prestige background.

With Han Ju Won’s intention of being in Manyang a mystery, these two detectives had to work together to catch a serial killer on the loose.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

PLOT: Personally, I felt that Beyond Evil started off at a confusing note; probably because the producers wanted to start off the drama on an interesting note. However, personally I felt that without any context, it was difficult to understand what was going on. There were more clarity from Episode 3 onwards as the series began answering the questions viewers may have

Despite the confusion at the start, I am impressed with the writers for coming up with such an interesting plot full of twists.

CHARACTERS: This drama had very interesting characters from the lead roles to the supporting roles. For one, Lee Dong Sik is unpredictable. While he enforced the law as an officer, he was also someone who was willing to bend it.

Han Ju Won appeared as someone whom is righteous and goes by the book. However, as the plot progresses, I felt that he could be as extreme as Lee Dong Sik when situation called for it.

Another character that I thought was worth mentioning is Park Jung Jae (Heo Sung Tae), whom was Lee Dong Sik’s childhood friend. His character left a deep impression on me and his role in the drama was crucial, especially towards the later part of the series.

ACTING: Yeo Jin Goo is an actor that I am familiar with since his appearance in Hotel De Luna; so it does not came as any surprise when he acted so well as Han Ju Won. The later episodes leading to the final episode simply proved that he is a very good actor.

The rest of the cast found in this drama were really good as well. Shin Ha Kyun made me impressed with his acting as Lee Dong Sik. As one of the leading roles in this series and with the background story that he had a sister missing for years, there were a number of emotional scenes for Lee Dong Sik, which I felt that Shin Ha Kyun had managed to portray the character so well.

OVERALL: I do recommend watching this drama for viewers who are interested in viewing some dark, suspense drama. However, I do caution that some of the scenes could be uncomfortable to watch due to the concept of the drama. Additionally, it could be confusing for some viewers during the first few episodes, but I am positive that things will become clearer as the drama progresses.
